WHAT WE DO

BODA Therapy offers a new approach for preteens, adolescents, young adults, and families. Rooted in accessibility, engagement, and accountability, we facilitate experiential therapy and coaching through familiar, enjoyable activities that extend beyond traditional hour-long office sessions. We provide a structured accountability program to prevent backsliding and reinforce progress. We also design customized 3-to-5-night retreats in the Catskills, blending immersive outdoor experiences with therapy that is dynamic, meaningful, and often enjoyable.
BODA Therapy aims to take clients outdoors, where exposure to nature has been clinically proven to improve mood, enhance concentration, and reduce stress. We strive to make therapy enjoyable while creating a blueprint for maintaining long-term well-being. When therapy becomes enjoyable, clients are more engaged and more invested in their own growth.

BODA Therapy and Coaching

We help our clients who are experiencing a shift from their usual functioning or a disruption to their everyday lives. We adhere to the following tenets:
  • We are skills-based and focus on our clients’ strengths to optimize growth.
  • We use a combination of modalities: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), In-Action Group Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Collaborative Problem Solving, as well as others.
  • We aim to make both coaching and therapy experiential and often encourage clients to participate in outdoor sessions.
  • We are family-centric.
  • We collaborate with a client’s established treatment team (psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, pharmacologist, school counselor, educational consultant) to create a comprehensive treatment plan that meets the client’s needs.
  • In cases where a client is stepping down from a higher level of care (e.g., residential treatment center, wilderness program), we work with clients, their families, and other treatment providers to create and implement a robust treatment plan.

BODA Retreats

Whether someone needs extra support during a difficult time or wants to build and practice new skills, BODA’s customized retreats are another powerful tool to maximize their well-being. Retreats can also serve as a valuable assessment tool to help providers determine whether a client requires a higher or lower level of care.
Retreats are carefully curated and can be done one-on-one, with small groups of like-minded individuals or with families.
  • Retreats are designed to integrate with and support ongoing therapy—not to interrupt or replace it.
  • We coordinate closely with referring professionals before, during, and after a participant’s retreat, ensuring a smooth “handoff” back to the existing therapeutic provider(s).
  • Retreats include activities such as hiking, biking, skiing and swimming, with nature providing the backdrop for a clinically rich experience. Outdoors, participants can be more present, less triggered, and free from distractions like electronic devices.
  • Participants learn skills to tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and manage unhelpful thoughts and feelings. These skills are practiced in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment alongside like-minded peers.
  • We strive to make therapy enjoyable while creating a blueprint for maintaining long-term well-being. When therapy becomes enjoyable, clients are more engaged and more invested in their own growth.
BODA Accountability Program

Sometimes clients aren’t fully aware of their own habits and daily practices that are vital to preventing backsliding and supporting progress. BODA Therapy offers customized backsliding-prevention tools to help clients maintain the gains they’ve achieved.

  • We provide consistent accountability check-ins.
  • We track daily self-care habits and the use of positive coping skills.
  • We use wearable technology to track sleep and exercise.
  • We use family sessions to objectively assess whether treatment goals are being met.
  • We collaborate with outside treatment providers.
  • We provide extended in-person sessions outside of traditional 9-5 office hours.

THE BODA DIFFERENCE

We believe that clients often need more than just a weekly hour-long session in an office setting during a crisis period.
We believe that intensive therapeutic work does not need to
be anxiety-ridden, dread-filled hard work. Rather, it can be dynamic, engaging, and even enjoyable.

We believe that activity changes the dynamic of therapy. During one-on-one sessions when possible and during our immersive retreats, we take our clients out of environments where unhelpful patterns and triggers are usually created and place them into a familiar and enjoyable activity, outside in nature, where therapy occurs. Being outside in nature has been clinically proven to positively affect mood and concentration, and reduce stress overall.

We have learned that clients become more open and susceptible to making shifts in their thinking, learning new skills, and letting go of their unhelpful habits when they are outside, moving their bodies, learning new skills, and engaging in an immersive experience. While our clients engage in activities such as hiking, biking, or skiing, therapy occurs - seamlessly, effortlessly, and in some ways, unknowingly.

We believe that when therapy becomes fun, our clients become more engaged and more invested in their own work.

We believe accountability is key to preventing backsliding and maintaining long-term well-being.

BODA takes clients outdoors and creates immersive therapeutic experiences. Being outdoors has not only been clinically proven to positively affect mood and concentration, but also reduces overall stress levels.
