Questions About Our Retreats
Some common challenges that participants come to BODA with are as follows: anxiety, depression, anger management problems, ADHD (and other neurodiversities), family conflict, lack of effective communication skills, and technology dependency among others. In addition, many of our clients display a low frustration tolerance, struggle to regulate their mood and often lack sufficient awareness of the unhelpful thought patterns and feelings that keep them from being their best selves.
We take our responsibility to ensure the physical and emotional safety of participants very seriously by providing a safe environment for participants to engage with. The staff is certified in First Aid and CPR and is in constant communication in order to access any emergency services. It's not likely that emergency services will be needed as participants aren't asked to put themselves in danger.
We encourage as little use of phone calls/texting, social media, streaming apps and mindless technology consumption as possible, but we value the importance of having the option to stay connected. We allow participants to bring their cellphones so they're able to contact their family and friends throughout the retreat during designated "downtime" periods when phones are allowed. BODA also uses elements of Music Therapy throughout the retreats, so participants are welcome to bring music and headphones on some hikes. Conversely, there will be times when there will be no cell phones allowed in order to allow participants to fully engage and focus on the activity before them. Ultimately we want to help participants to renegotiate their relationship with technology. We hope that clients can develop greater control over their screen and phone usage.
The demands of each BODA retreat vary based on the retreat location and the physical fitness of the participants. We never ask you to push yourself further than you're comfortable. Nor would we ever put you in danger. From time to time, we do ask participants to operate outside of their comfort zone in order to maximize growth.
Though the location varies from time to time, the experience remains restorative, comfortable and accommodating. We strive to ensure that all participants are able to enjoy comfortable, cozy sleeping arrangements where they can find rest and rejuvenation. When it comes to food, we're able to tailor the experience to meet the needs and preferences of participants, especially those with dietary constraints. Each participant will have the opportunity to share any allergies, intolerances and preferences with our team prior to your arrival.
You'll receive a complete packing list based on the season, location and activity prior to a retreat. In addition to the list, participants should bring any of the following items that apply to them specifically:
- Glasses (even if you usually wear contacts)
- Contacts
- Four days worth of prescription medication
- Anything else that is medically necessary
The founder of BODA Therapy, Andrew Tepper, is present at all retreats. We also have an amazing roster of counselors for each retreat. We try to tailor the staff based on the unique needs of the individuals participating in each retreat.

My sessions with Andrew while skiing were among the most fruitful therapy sessions I’ve had. There’s something about being in nature, having the space to move, reflect, and dig into issues that need solving while in such a beautiful environment
that gave me the perspective I needed to get mentally unstuck.
If you want high quality therapy while having an amazing time in the outdoors, Andrew’s your guy for sure.
